Oak Hill Woods, adjoining the park, are a delightful and important remnant of the ancient English Weald, and a great source of pleasure to the local community.
Native oaks dominate the canopy, but there are also ash, hornbeam and beech trees. The woods are home to numerous species of birds, bats and wild flowers.
The woods are managed by the London Wildlife Trust, and regular conservation work is carried out under expert guidance by volunteers from the Friends of Oak Hill Woods.
Our objective is to protect and support the wildlife and make the woods an enjoyable and safe environment for the public.
If you would like to spend a few hours on the occasional weekend doing valuable and enjoyable conservation work in the woods, we would be very pleased to welcome you to the team.
Just turn up at the bandstand with a pair of working gloves, or call Kit Jones on 07962 960130, Andy Aiken on 020 8361 2683, or Geoff Skinner on 07711 306806.
Upcoming work sessions are planned for Sat 21 Nov at 10.30, Sun 29 Nov at 11.00 and Sat 5 Dec at 10.30, and Sun 13 Dec at 11.00. There will be more in 2010. |
